The present list is an occurence dataset of plant species which are widely used as sources of fuel in Malawi. Charcoal burning is becoming is a major driver of forest degradation in Malawi. Though the Ministry of Forestry and Natural resources has intensified clean-up operations to get rid of illegal possession, vending and transportation of charcoal and other forest produce are on the increase. This has led to degrease in species being targeted for these forestry products. The present list documents some of the species which are targeted by charcoal and firewood sellers and their distribution. This distribution is not exhaustive enough as it doesn’t cover the entire distributional range of these species. The current list represents only samples that have been digitized in BRAHMS database. Digitization of records is an ongoing process and this list will be improved as more data is entered in the database.
Data Records
The data in this 出現紀錄 resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 352 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

The African Biodiversity Challenge is a competition coordinated by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and funded by the JRS Biodiversity Foundation. The competition follows on from a previous JRS-funded project, “Mobilising Policy and Decision-making Relevant Biodiversity Data”, which culminated in the Africa Rising conference in 2015, and supports on-going efforts to further enhance the Biodiversity Information Management activities of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) Africa network.
