Latest version published by Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi on May 31, 2022
This resource was documented in 1982 when Thyolo Mountain Evergreen Forest was one of the most important mountains for bird fauna in Malawi. Fifty five bird species occurred there of which 24 were montane species. It was also thought that 26 of the 55 exclusively occurred on Thyolo mountain and 10 of the 26 were confined to submontane foresty.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 55 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Study Area Description | The area of the submontane evergreen forest on Thyolo mountain is well known and can be seen from the Blantyre-Thyolo road |
Design Description | The first study was conducted from May 1980 to April 1981 in the 8 riparian forests of upper Thyolo where 15 species of evergreen forests birds were found that had been thought of as confined to the submontane evergreen forests of Thyolo mountain. |

Sampling Methods
In the upper Thyolo district there were several unspoilt riparian forests. They had never been researched by an ornithologist. In April 1990, the rare green-headed Oriole was unexpectedly recorded there. This led in the year May to April 1981 to through researching eight riparian forests in upper Thyolo.
Study Extent | The study was conducted on the evergreen forest of Thyolo mountain whose forest cover is divided into submontane and riparian forests. |

Method step description:
