ABC Ndangopuma Hills Sampling event data10_11_2005

Latest version published by National Herbarium & Botanic Gardens of Malawi on May 31, 2022 National Herbarium & Botanic Gardens of Malawi

The present dataset comes from a day trip event which was carried out by some members of the technical committee of National Herbarium & Botanic Gardens of Malawi in 2005.This hill was has been visited more than once for plot sampling. The raw data exists for most of the field trip but what is needed is to turn them in electronic formats. The current dataset was collected by Salubeni, Mwamwaya and Nansongole on 10-11-2005.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 4 records. 1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

  • Event (core)
    4
  • Occurrence
    94

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Project Data

The African Biodiversity Challenge is a competition coordinated by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and funded by the JRS Biodiversity Foundation. The competition follows on from a previous JRS-funded project, “Mobilising Policy and Decision-making Relevant Biodiversity Data”, which culminated in the Africa Rising conference in 2015, and supports on-going efforts to further enhance the Biodiversity Information Management activities of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) Africa network.

Title The African Biodiversity Challenge: unlocking data for sustainable development
Funding The current project is funded by the JRS Biodiversity Foundation
Study Area Description The area of study is Malawi

Sampling Methods

A single transect was laid from the starting point with the aid of a hand held which help with directions of the transect. 10m by 10m quadrats were laid out along the transect at a distance of 50m between each transect. In each plot, coordinates and altitude were captured using a hand held GPS. This was done at the middle of each plot. Plant species present within the quadrat were recorded.

Study Extent The study took place at Ndangopuma hills Zomba district.

Additional Metadata

Purpose The dataset is one of the several datasets produced by the National Herbarium & Botanic Gardens of Malawi in 2005. About 6 site visits were carried out by NHBG to document the species of the entire mountain.
