A checklist of plant species observed in some parts of a degraded Thyolo mountain forest Reserve

Latest version published by National Herbarium & Botanic Gardens of Malawi on Jun 3, 2024 National Herbarium & Botanic Gardens of Malawi

This is a list of plant observations from a 5 day trip to Thyolo mountains which was once brachystegia/miombo woodland but has of late been degraded due to farming and charcoal burning. The area needs urgent attention because there is rampant soil erosion taking place.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 290 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Additional Metadata

Purpose The dataset is was created to help with conservation efforts in Malawi as the country is trying to come up with reafforestation programs. The area was once a forest reserve but has been cleared for farming and as well as trees cut down to produce charcoal for urban dwellers in Blantyre as the country is battling from electricity shortages.
